It’s a tough lesson for about a thousand investors who put money into a luxury beachfront development in Belize. California-based developers promoted Central American real estate deal as a high-end community with upscale amenities that would be finished quickly. Thirteen years later, they have not delivered on their promise and investors are unable to get their money back. The FTC is calling it the largest overseas scam it has ever investigated.

Gen Z-ers are gravitating towards homeownership at a much younger age than previous generations. Realtor.com did a survey that shows Gen Z-ers are twice as likely to be saving or planning to save for a home by age 25. Two in five of them hope to have saved for and bought a home in that timeframe.

County officials have drafted legislation that would pump $30 million into distressed neighborhoods to help increase home values. Buying an older apartment building in need of a few upgrades could be your ticket to a pay raise. According to the National Real Estate Investor, it’s still possible to find older multi-families in areas with strong or growing rental demand that only need minor renovations to charge higher rents. One consultant told the NREI that these “value-add” investments are “still a viable investment strategy at this point in the cycle.”
